The mistake to avoid: scrubbing too aggressively, particularly on older or soft grout, can physically damage the grout surface, creating a rougher texture that traps soil more readily than before cleaning. Firm, consistent pressure is more effective than aggressive force and protects the grout integrity.

For tile surface between grout lines, a standard floor scrub brush or mop with a scrubbing pad is appropriate, grout-line technique isn’t needed on the flat tile face.

Step 5: Rinse Thoroughly, More Thoroughly Than Feels Necessary

For floor tile: allow air drying with ventilation, or use a clean dry mop or microfiber pad to accelerate drying. Wet grout looks darker than dry grout, assess the result only after the floor has dried to its final color.

For shower and wall tile: squeegee the surface after rinsing to remove standing water, then allow air drying. Squeegee technique, working top to bottom in overlapping passes, also serves as a final check for product residue, which shows as streaking in the squeegee path.
